This poem was for my friend Jan, for her 60th.
Today – Jan’s tea-party for her girlfriends

Jan is a special friend of mine, I know that she is yours
I guess that’s why I’m writing this, to make us stop
and pause,
To think about her gifts to us, the many roles she plays,
The many things she teaches us, with acts, or what she says
She’s Linton’s lady, best friend too, daughter to her
mother,
She grew up in a family with sisters and a brother
She learned ‘responsibility’ – a ‘life trait’ so
well used,
Clear thinking is a gift she spreads, she seldom is confused.
She always lifts us when we’re sad, she helps us when she may
She always has a smile for us and knows the things to say
But now she’s sixty! Lessons learned. (At least she’s
taken classes!)
And I’d suggest that each subject has earned more than ‘passes’.
Everyone should have, at least, one Jan in their life,
To listen to and be guided by, to help them when in strife,
So join with me and raise your glass, or drink your cup of tea
And Bless with Love, our mate, our Jan, the best friend there could
be.
